INK Theatre Shortlisted for Outstanding Drama Initiative Award 2027
INK Theatre is delighted to have been shortlisted for the Outstanding Drama Initiative at the Music & Drama Education Awards 2027, recognising the work surrounding The Drummer Boy, written by Rob John.
The Music & Drama Education Awards celebrate the outstanding contribution made by practitioners, schools, charities and organisations to the lives of children, young people and adults across the UK. The awards recognise the people and projects making a difference through performing arts and education.
Theatre That Goes Beyond the Stage
At the heart of INK's shortlisting is The Drummer Boy, a production that combines the power of live theatre with educational resources designed to extend its impact into schools.
Written by Rob John, the production explores mental health and wellbeing, using storytelling to encourage conversation around important issues affecting young people.
Alongside the performance, a dedicated school resource pack supports teachers in exploring the play's themes with their pupils. This allows the experience to continue beyond the theatre, creating opportunities for discussion, reflection and learning in the classroom.
By bringing together performance and education, The Drummer Boy demonstrates how theatre can provide a starting point for meaningful conversations and help young people engage with challenging subjects in an accessible way.
Celebrating the Work
Being shortlisted for the Outstanding Drama Initiative Award is an exciting recognition of this work and the commitment behind bringing The Drummer Boy to audiences and schools.
We are proud of writer Rob John and everyone involved in the production and its educational resources, helping to bring theatre into schools and create opportunities for young people to engage with its themes.
The Music & Drama Education Awards 2027 will celebrate organisations and individuals making an outstanding contribution to performing arts and education across the UK.
