Now in its twelfth year, INK has become the UK’s leading producer of original short plays.
How We Started, INK was born from a writer’s frustration that there were so few platforms for new scripts – so we created one. In 2015, we staged 15 short plays at our first INK Festival in Halesworth, Suffolk. 12 years later, INK has become one of the UK's leading champions of new short plays, producing more than 70 new works each year at our five-day festival.

Throughout the year we commission, develop and tour new work, deliver an extensive education programme in schools and communities across East Anglia and create free opportunities for people of all ages to engage with theatre. We also collaborate with health organisations, charities and other theatre companies to bring new stories to wider audiences.

our mission…

As a charitable theatre company, we discover new voices, produce outstanding live performance, develop artists at every stage of their careers, engage communities through meaningful creative experiences and inspire the next generation through education.

Through everything we do—from productions and festivals to workshops, schools programmes and artist development—we believe theatre has the power to connect people,

spark ideas and strengthen communities.

our vision

To create a future where new theatrical voices have the opportunity to be heard and establish Halesworth as the UK's leading destination for new writing and emerging theatre talent.

Our Four Priorities

1

Theatrical Productions

Creating bold new theatre - INK develops and produces exceptional new plays, creating opportunities for audiences to experience original work and for artists to bring new stories to the stage. From our flagship festival to touring productions and commissions, producing theatre sits at the heart of everything we do.

2

Artist Development

Supporting the people who make theatre - We discover and champion outstanding creative talent, providing the opportunities, support and professional networks that help artists thrive. From first commissions to fully realised productions, we work alongside theatre-makers as they develop their practice and build sustainable careers.

3

Community Engagement

Making theatre accessible to everyone - We work with communities across the East of England to ensure theatre is something people can experience, participate in and help shape. Through partnerships, outreach and participatory projects, we create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect through creativity.

4

Education

Inspiring the next generation through theatre - We believe theatre is a powerful tool for learning, creativity and self-expression. Through workshops, schools’ partnerships, colleges, universities and youth programmes, we help young people develop creative skills, discover the world of theatre and explore future careers in the arts. By nurturing curiosity and confidence from an early age, we help build the next generation of theatre-makers and theatre audiences.
