supporting new

writing

Short plays are powerful calling cards, giving writers the freedom to experiment, refine their craft and showcase their unique voice without the demands of a full-length production.

INK commissions, develops and produces new plays throughout the year, working with writers at every stage of their careers to bring original stories to life.

As the UK's leading producer of new short plays for stage and radio , INK showcases around 70 original works each year at the annual INK Festival. Every selected script receives a professional production, giving writers the invaluable opportunity to see their work brought to life by professional actors and directors.

The festival has become a recognised launchpad for new writing, with many INK writers progressing to successful careers in theatre, radio, television and film. Literary teams and producers from organisations including the Criterion New Writing, The Bush, The Pleasance, Eastern Angles and Aldeburgh Comedy regularly look to INK to discover exciting new playwrights and original work.

Criterion Theatre New Writing Partnership

Through our partnership with Criterion New Writing in London’s West End, eight INK writers are selected each year for further mentoring and development, creating a valuable pathway into the wider theatre industry.
